The poem Hávamál is preserved in a 13th-century manuscript known as the Codex Regius of the Poetic Edda. It contains timeless wisdom and practical advice for living and proper conduct. Together with Vo¨luspa´, Hávamál is one of the most famous and often quoted of all Eddic poems, and a pillar of medieval Icelandic culture.
Hávamál is presented in a new translation by scholar Emily Lethbridge. The Icelandic text is printed alongside the English for reference, and an introduction provides contextual information.
