The poem Völuspá is preserved in a 13th-century manuscript known as the Codex Regius of the Poetic Edda. It is a dramatic monologue in the voice of a powerful seeress who describes the creation of the world, its destruction, and rebirth. Together with Vo¨luspa´, Hávamál is one of the most famous and often quoted of all Eddic poems, and a pillar of medieval Icelandic culture.
